Coach Kline Steps Up To Varsity

York Tech Varsity Baseball welcomes new assistant coach Steve Kline. Coach Kline (CK) is entering his third season with the program. He spent his first two as JV assistant to Coach Gibson, where the pair made huge strides at that level. The departure of Coach Brown at the conclusion of last season created a vacancy on the Varsity Staff. Coach Stuckey immediately reached out to both Coach Gibson and Coach Kline to judge their interest in the position. While both coaches expressed some interest, the staff ultimately agreed that Coach Kline would best fit the position. Gibson's Head Coaching experience will provide stability at the JV level and Kline's baseball experience is an ideal fit for the Varsity squad which is poised to make a run at the division championship this season.

“I feel I can bring years of baseball knowledge to the plate… tricks and tools of a veteran catcher, if you will.” said Kline. CK has played and coached baseball for most of his adult life since graduating from Penn State York with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. One of his strengths in the game is his knowledge of the catcher position. With a young core of catchers in the program, Kline’s experience behind the plate will be very valuable to the Varsity squad.

Kline takes over as Varsity Assistant with a talented group of upper classman ready to cement their legacy at Tech. The leaders of Tech’s rise over the past 2 seasons are Nathan Chronister (Sr.), Luke Greisler (Sr.), and Juan Lopez (Jr.). Chronister and Greisler are proven winners on the mound and represent Tech’s 2 most recent Players of the Year. Lopez is probably Tech’s most talented player from top to bottom and has been a huge piece of the Spartans’ improved defense. All 3 are proven weapons offensively. Coach Kline thinks this team can compete for the division this season, “The players have been together for two seasons and know what they’re capable of and what’s expected. The core group of coaches have been together for 3 years and have developed a style that works.” These factors are why not only Kline, but many other people familiar with the situation believe the team will compete for a championship.

All in all, Kline will bring a combination of baseball knowledge and coaching experience to a team that already has the talent and chemistry to compete. Coach Kline may very well be the missing piece that pushes the Spartans over the top for the 2018 season.
